Explore the options for a Black amd Minority Ethnic (BME) network for Sheffield
On the 4th September 2007, over 70 individuals from BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) voluntary, community and faith-based organisations came to a Having Our Say event organised by OFFER, VAS and the City Council. The purpose was to consider how BME organisations might want to network to influence strategies being developed for the city.
There were a huge range of ideas, thoughts and issues generated from this event and it was agreed that to move this forward a group would be formed to explore this in more depth and then report back at another big event.
Over 30 people from a range of BME organisations or groups that work with BME communities have volunteered to take part in this group, called the Network Development Group, which has been meeting since the 4th September.
All BME groups of whom we’re aware, around 400, have been sent the notes of each of its meetings and at the same time invited to take part.
This is now the opportunity to find out in detail the issues they’ve examined and the suggested solutions they’ve come up with and to decide what the next steps should be.
